S AND B EPS WASTE COLLECTION
THE CLIENT BRIEF
To provide and Monitor a cost effective and environmentally friendly scheme allowing External wall system providers to recycle unused offcuts of Lambdatherm®
Launched in 2012 the S and B recycling scheme allows external wall system providers to return uncontaminated Lambdatherm® boards which are then recycled back in to the equivalent EPS product and reused as insulation.
During 2012 a total of 750 m³ of waste material was recycled in the pilot scheme.
In 2013 the scheme has continued to grow as the cost and environmental benefits have become apparent with the overall figure reaching a value of approximately 6670 m³.
The waste collections whenever possible are carried out as back loads from the sites using wagons that are Euro Class 4 or Euro Class 5 compliant reducing the need for additional transport to also help reduce the Carbon Footprint.
This has enabled the system providers to significantly reduce the amount of waste material going to landfill along with all of the associated costs.
THE CHALLENGE
The disposal of waste material from construction sites is still a major problem in the UK, the waste collection scheme run by S and B EPS Ltd is aimed at reducing the amount of EPS that needs to go to landfill Lambdatherm® is an enhanced grey coloured EPS material registered to S and B EPS® that is 100 percent recyclable and obtains an A+ rating in the Green guide.
“It has been great to watch this scheme grow , showing the commitment of all involved to help protect our environment.”
