S and B fill blocks were chosen as the preferred solution to assist in the manufacture of lightweight pontoon sections used in the construction of a floating visitor centre at Brockholes nature reserve.
Over 4,200 cu-m of specialised close tolerance blocks were supplied with transport organised in bespoke wagons to allow for an access issue to the site comprising of low bridge heights of only 4m. S and B Fill 45 was the grade specified due to its combination of lightweight structure and high cross breaking strength.
A certificate of conformity to BS EN 14933: 2007 (thermal insulation for civil Engineering) was supplied for this application.
Surplus material was collected from the site both during construction and at the end of the project, this was then recycled and used in a variety of packaging materials showing the benefits of EPS as a green material.
An interesting innovative project from start to finish, allowing the public to enjoy nature at its best
